Almost one month feels like a fabulous four months!

Here I am not far from my house, at the men's abbey.
Here is a view of the women's abbey and the double spires of the men's abbey in the background!
My beautiful day-trip to Ouistreham, Normandy!  A 67 degree day at the beach never felt so good!
I had to try moulles-frites at the beach...they were a hit!
The women's abbey "cloître" right before the sudden hail storm.
Server making my fettucine in a giant vat of parmegiano reggiano, champignons et liquor.
Macaroons: always a delicious snack during tea time.

  1. I have been living in Caen for about a month now, and it almost feels as if I've been here so much longer than that, yet how the time has flown! Every day is a new experience, an opportunity to plan or embark on an adventure. Even though I came here to improve my French, I find myself growing in so many other ways that I had not expected! It is exciting to accomplish tasks from start to finish, from dreaming of visiting a place, to making it happen and having a wonderful time doing so.

Although the first few days were challenging for me in late January, coming to a town where hardly anyone (admits they) speak English, I quickly and determinedly embraced this journey. Looking back, I don't know why I was so worried about how I would fare, or whether I would find anyone else who wanted to savor France like I do. That first week, I proved to myself that I can embrace any adventure, no matter how intimidating it may seem, and have the zest of the experience after the initial shock. Others, sadly, have not fared so well...exploration is the key to a glorious adventure!
